Elizabeth Wathuti – the climate star from Kenya

Date: Saturday, 19 September 2026
Time: 13.30 - 14.15
Location: Folkehaven, Fælledvej 12, 2200 København N

One of Africa’s most powerful climate voices is visiting Denmark for the Climate Justice Days.

Elizabeth Wathuti captured the world’s attention when she opened the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow with a plea to world leaders to “open their hearts.” For more than a decade, she has been fighting for climate and environmental justice in her home country of Kenya, and today she leads the Green Generation Initiative. In 2025, Time Magazine recognized her as one of the 100 most influential climate advocates in the world.

Join Elizabeth as she speaks about the impacts of climate change in Africa, her work to engage young people in climate action, and what she believes is needed to protect our planet. She will be joined in conversation by Søren Warburg, Senior Movement Specialist at ActionAid Denmark, who will also share insights from his work with social movements across the African continent at a time when growing younger generations are demanding a better future.

The event will be moderated by Karoline Rahbek, World's Best News
